How we started

The building from which the centre operates dates from around 1870. It was a typical Victorian residence until the mid 1940s when started the first Osteopathic practice.

Ah, Sheffield! A city full of charm and history, and at the heart of this city lies a little gem that many know as "Wainwright Therapy Centre, The Home Osteopathy." Let me tell you the story of this magical place, created in 1940.

It was a time when doctors in white coats were more intimidating than reassuring, and treatments were often as painful as the illness itself. But one man, Dr. James Wainwright, had a different vision.

James was a simple man, with gentle hands and a warm smile. He believed in healing through touch and understanding the human body. He was convinced that osteopathy could bring relief where traditional medicine failed.

With a small nest egg and a lot of courage, he opened the "Wainwright Therapy Centre" in a little house in Sheffield. It wasn't a fancy place, but it was welcoming and warm, just like James himself.

People came from far and wide to be treated by Dr. Wainwright. He had this unique ability to make you feel like you were the only person in the world who mattered. His treatments were gentle, but effective, and his patients often left with more than just physical healing.

Over the years, the center grew, but it never lost that personal touch that made it so special. James trained other osteopaths, passing on his knowledge and passion. The "Wainwright Therapy Centre" became an institution in Sheffield, a place of healing and well-being.

James left us in 1985, but his legacy lives on. The center continues to thrive, always true to its founder's vision. It's a place where people come for comfort, healing, and sometimes even a little wisdom.

If you ever pass through Sheffield, make a detour to the "Wainwright Therapy Centre." You might find more than just osteopathic treatment. You'll find a piece of Sheffield's history, and maybe even a bit of yourself.

That's the "Wainwright Therapy Centre, The Home Osteopathy." A place where medicine meets humanity, where the past embraces the present, and where every patient is treated like family. A place that, since 1940, continues to touch hearts and heal bodies. A true home of osteopathy.
